  1. Heroes 2 version 1.10  12/10/96

  3. This patch adds a random map generator in the World Editor, and fixes
  4. a number of small bugs in both the game and the editor.  Also, this file
  5. lists some information in the manual that was missing, wrong, or unclear.
  6. Finally, there is a troubleshooting section at the end of this file that
  7. addresses some of the most common problems users have been experiencing, 
  8. and recommends solutions to them.

  11. =====Patch Fixes/Additions=====
  12.  
  13. * Random Map Generator now available in the World Editor.  This allows 
  14. you to randomly create worlds, with paramaters you set.  
  15.  
  16. * All single scenario maps may now be loaded in the editor.  If you save
  17. them out again, they will have an underscore prefix, so they don't 
  18. overwrite the originals.
  19.  
  20. * Sound and Video support code has been updated, which will clear up
  21. some problems.  (See the troubleshooting section for more help).
  22.  
  23. * Old CD Rom drives which can't handle the switching code should now
  24. display a normal error message, rather than simply crashing.
  25.  
  26. * A bug preventing the entering of long IP addresses in internet play
  27. has been fixed.
  28.  
  29. * Some communication errors when hosting a TCP/IP game have been fixed.
  30.  
  31. * Occasionally, when a very large number of objects were placed in 
  32. the editor, it would crash.  This has been fixed.
  33.  
  34. * The DOS version allowed invalid save filenames.  Filenames are now 
  35. checked for accuracy.

  37. * The * and , symbols may now be used for modem dialing (*70, disables 
  38. call waiting)

  40. * Deleting events and rumours in the editor didn't work properly before.
  41. This has been fixed.

  43. * Undead units were showing bad morale, even though they don't have morale.
  44. This has been fixed.

  46. * Ghosts were growing faster than they should have when retaliating.  This
  47. has been fixed.

  53. =====Manual Supplements=====
  54. The following information supplements, clarifies and corrects the manual:

  56. * The <F2> key can be used in multi-player mode for chatting.
  57.  
  58. * To split armies, click on the army to split, hold down the shift key,
  59. then click on an empty slot.
  60.  
  61. * The terms used for monster quantities:
  62.    Few      0 to 4
  63.    Several  5 to 9
  64.    Pack     10 to 19
  65.    Lots     20 to 49
  66.    Horde    50 to 99
  67.    Throng   100 to 249
  68.    Swarm    250 to 499

  73. =====Troubleshooting=====
  74. The biggest source of troubles when running Heroes 2 are Windows 95 driver 
  75. conflicts.  If you have troubles getting Heroes 2 to run in Win 95, try some
  76. of the following techniques.  As a fallback, you can always run the DOS 
  77. version of Heroes 2, which runs fine under Win 95, and because it 
  78. communicates directly with the hardware, tends to have fewer driver problems.
  79.  
  80. If you have a problem with your sound card, video, or mouse, make sure you
  81. have the latest drivers from the manufacturer.  
  82.  
  83. With some mouse drivers, the mouse leaves trails or does funny things when 
  84. moved.  This can normally be resolved by switching from a black and white
  85. cursor to a color cursor, in the system options window off the main 
  86. adventure screen.
  87.  
  88. If your system has problems playing the video sequences (like those that 
  89. introduce the campaign), try switching to interlaced video, in the system 
  90. options window.  This will also help if the sound hiccups or stutters while
  91. playing the video.
  92.  
  93. If you have problems with the sound, try switching from CD Stereo to MIDI 
  94. music, in the system options screen.  
  95.  
  96. Several people have reported that restoring their original audio
  97. drivers after installing DirectX has helped.  To do this, either open
  98. the DirectX control panel applet and select "Restore Audio Drivers"
  99. or open the "\_SETUP\DIRECTX\DXSETUP.EXE" program on the Heroes 2 CD
  100. and select "Restore Audio Drivers"  You will probably need your
  101. Windows 95 CD to restore the old drivers from.
